National Memorial at Pollok Country Park

In March 2021, one year after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Herald newspaper raised approx. £60k to create a national memorial project in Pollok Country Park.

greenspace scotland (on behalf of The Herald Covid Memorial Steering Group) has commissioned the artist Alec Finlay to lead the creative engagement process to develop a National Covid Memorial in Pollok Country Park, Glasgow and that could be utilised by communities and other organisations in greenspaces across Scotland.

You can contribute to Scotland’s Covid Memorial by writing an I remember

This simple form is a way to remember loved ones who passed away, or to record your own experience of the pandemic.

A wide-ranging selection will appear on the memorial website, where they will be anonymised, and all contributions will be archived. The website launches in February 2022.

A selection of I remember will be available as part of the final artwork, which is being created in Pollok Country Park, Glasgow, and at satellite venues.  It is also hoped that a selection will appear in a book.

The I remember form was devised by the American artist Joe Brainard. The only rule is that they must consist of a single sentence that begins, ‘I remember...’

For the sake of confidentiality please only use first names if you refer to people. We recommend trying to make your memory specific and personal. You are welcome to contribute more than one I remember. Examples can be viewed at i-remember.uk

The campaign for a national memorial was initiated by The Herald with their partners at greenspace scotland managing and overseeing the artistic commission.
