Welcome to Dumfries & Galloway
Dumfries and Galloway is the third largest of Scotland's council areas, but only the 12th largest in terms of population, reflecting the largely rural nature of the area. The region extends over 110 miles from east to west, covering the majority of the western area of the Southern Uplands, and hosts Scotland’s most southerly point, the Mull of Galloway. Dumfries is the main administrative centre for the region and with a population of just over 33,000, is Dumfries and Galloway’s largest town. The region is known for its creative and cultural activities and the beauty of its natural environment, which includes a rocky shoreline with sandy beaches and acres of forest and green spaces. The region is made up of many diverse and distinctive communities and it is a magnetic draw for visitors from across Scotland and further afield.
