Welcome to Angus
Angus is located within 842 square miles on the East Coast of Scotland, boasting a varied landscape of expansive mountains, valleys and glens, to prime agricultural and land and historic towns and villages along a varied North Sea coastline. The Angus population is concentrated primarily within the seven main towns – Forfar, Kirriemuir, Montrose, Brechin, Arbroath, Carnoustie and Monifieth. Almost three-quarters of the population live within these seven towns with the remaining 28% in the many satellite villages or smaller settlements and other more rural locations.
Like all areas of Scotland, Covid has severely impacted all the local communities of Angus, to some degree. Across the population of approx. 116,520, we know that there has been an increase in people looking for counselling/mental health/wellbeing services, young people experiencing anxiety about their prospects and there have been many instances of people feeling more marginalised and isolated due to the pandemic with many services reducing or being cut completely, along with an ageing population with rising care needs.
Throughout the pandemic, many public and third sector services and organisations have increased their capacity and output, especially food banks and associated services. Community Planning Partners and the Third Sector have worked in partnership with communities, providing essential, practical support to those in need within a highly adaptable support network. Many of these people and organisations will have stories to tell and life changing experiences to share. We will look to tap into this wealth of amazing people in our communities and use this project to support their continued efforts in helping the city recover from the pandemic.
Remembering Together: Angus is being delivered in partnership with Hospitalfield.
